| Welcome to Old Mission Danes (any text in blue can be clicked on to take you to that webpage) Old Mission Danes is located in Imlay city, Michigan We actively exibit/handle all of our great danes in AKC and UKC conformation shows, obedience train them and also each dog takes its CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Test. I have loved and admired the breed since childhood, but have been involved in the breed since 2001 and had our first litter in 2007. I am a proud member of the Great Dane Club of Michigan. Our dogs are all indoor house dogs. Our dogs are a part of our family and can usually be found curled up on a couch together. Our dogs are raised with children, so excellent temperaments are a must for any dog this size. Our dogs have a very large fenced yard so they can get the unrestricted physical and mental exercise needed for a giant working breed. Our dogs are show dogs, but they are family pets first. We take showing seriously but we mostly show locally so our dogs are not out on the road weekend after weekend, we keep it enjoyable so it does not become "work". Currently all our dogs are owner handled by myself, I enjoy every aspect of showing, handling, training, grooming, ect and the dog and I are a team. When we breed a litter, it is to add a new family member to our family and possibly yours. We breed with the hopes that there will be a show puppy in the litter for us to continue with. We require that every puppy spend their entire lives as an important family member and we take great care into placing our puppies into loving lifelong homes. If your looking for immediate gratification or want a dane on a whim with no research done please do not buy a dog until you have done your research on the breed and breeders, so many purebred dogs end up in pounds and euthanized or tied up in the backyard because people jumped into getting a dog they were not prepared for or did not match their lifestyle. Potential homes are interviewed and researched before they are approved and pups are temperament tested and matched up to best suit the type of home they are going into. If your interested in this breed please do your research well in advance to be sure this breed is right for your family and your budget for the entire life of the dog, read great dane books, visit the Great Dane Club of America website, meet many breeders and dogs in person, go to dog shows to see what the dogs should look at act like and to meet breeders, learn about health problems common in this breed before jumping into buying a puppy and be sure you can afford the vet bills. Giant breeds come with Giant responsibility, Giant bills and total dedication and involvement by the entire family. The focus of our breeding program is temperament, health, and conformation (breed type) and we believe in not sacrificing one for the other. Our sole purpose is to breed for the betterment of the Great Dane, never going backwards. We adhere to the Great Dane Club of America breeding ethics and breed our dogs to conform to the Great Dane Club of America Breed Standard which is the blueprint that every great dane should be bred towards. We do not breed for extremes, personal preferences or fads, we breed to adhere to the standard for our breed. Litters are born and raised in the home underfoot and socialized to all people and all things, so they transition to new families and the outside world very easily with confidence. We want our Danes to be able to excel in conformation, the obedience ring, agility ring, Therapy Dog work and first and foremost a well rounded family member. Companion pups also deserve to be well bred and healthy! All our breeding dogs are fully health tested prior to breeding. We take bringing lives into this world very seriously and all aspects of every breeding are throughly thought out and researched to determine the best breeding decisions for every litter. The parents are fully health tested (hips, eyes, hearts, thyroid as well as free of canine STD's) and are of superb temperament. Pedigrees are throughly researched well in advanced. If for any reason the new owners cannot keep their dog for any reason during its lifetime it is to be returned back to us. We offer companion and show puppies. Every puppy includes a show or pet contract, written 3 year health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Pet/Companion puppies are sold to approved homes only with limited registration, spay/neuter contract and cannot and will not be bred. Show puppies are sold at our discretion to committed show homes only.
